I really enjoyed this discussion and look forward to future editions with great anticipation. This is not a commercial (!) but we've recently added virtual tour and video technology to our website in addition to still shots as, like you, we believe less text, more multimedia, more interaction is the way forward. Obviously, visitors need factual data, but an honest image or video, as opposed to over-professionally enhanced ones, and honest reviews and comments, will surely tend to sway increasingly savvy spending decisions. The problem in some parts of Europe (Mallorca is one of these places) is that managers and proprietors of hospitality businesses can be rather conservative about all this "new" stuff!

Thanks for the blog and best wishes.

Hi Guillaume! Great post and it's exciting to hear that hotels are incorporating video more and more. I look forward to watching as the usage increases (and also to staying in touch!)

Regards,
Adam

@Mike - Thank you for your support. It's great to hear your experience with videos and virtual tours. I know the hospitality sector can be averse and conservative using new technology and new online tools but this blog is trying to prove the contrary with concrete examples of hotels using 21st century marketing to their own benefits

@Adam - Hi! Great to hear from you. Sorry that I didn't follow up on the offer a while ago. My head was spinning and couldn't keep up with emails. Again sorry.

Re. hotels and video. I think the hotel has to be careful - do you want them to appear too professional? I like Josiah's idea of using flip camera, make it look good, but, not staged.

Foursquare hasn't really taken off in the UK yet, but I can see potential for local businesses to use this to attract new customers and award regular's.

Hotels and video has such huge potential. I would prefer to see many short clips over the promotional montage they often do, but both is even better.

What an interesting idea, services like this are becoming more and more available.

What hoteliers & restaurants can begin using Foursquare

HeaderLogoThis year's deals with social media on siting and relevance. Believe it or not, are people willing to share their whereabouts and would like to tell their friends and family where they are almost directly thanks to software available on smart phones Android phones (I use a Nexus one yourself in 2 weeks now), iPhone, BlackBerry, and others.

The concept is simple. Your mobile device can tell the world where you are and you can "check in" in places you are right now.People are usually willing to share points of interest such as restaurants, bars, hotels, attractions, objective aussi less interesting meeting places such as airports or rail stations; eventually you may find that another friend of your EST at Heathrow Terminal 5, so why not with a cup of coffee, rather than being on your own waiting list for the boarding gate.

Today there are 2 clearly players in location-based online services: Gowalla and Foursquare; both companies began almost around the same time, if you want some background Wired about how these two companies have created and how their founder Josh Williams and Dennis Crowley found the idea, I would advise to read the story on tech magazine here.

I have experienced myself Foursquare for more than 2 weeks ago my acquisition of Nexus one running on Android, mobile phone operating system engineered by Google.

And I must say I have grown accustomed to in the application very quickly, and "control" seems natural for me now, but my wife is saying that I am a nerd, so perhaps Foursquare is not safe for all.

It doesn't 't think-hoteliers, restaurant owners, bar owners-you will not ' t pay attention to this new online community (remember how we "pay attention to before Twitter).

The reason: a phenomenal growth over the past 12 months that are not "t seem to slow down (2 million users this month), see statistics from compete.com below.

Aussi Foursquare (and probably Gowalla) gives greater proximity with customers and have this power megaphone effect that leads your goal for the operator to offer these guys something special, if they keep coming back to your property.

Also remember to steadfastly EST aussi, bit of the game for users to keep checking in, you can collect badges and become a mayor in a specific location if you check in often on these sites.

So while studying a little more what Foursquare can make to hotels, restaurants, I discovered that allows entrepreneurs Foursquare register themselves; This is how it works.

# 1-find your property

Picture 1

Picture 8

# 2 Have a look at how many people are checked in and what they say about your property (see the little note about various cupcakes from Dj J.)

Picture 9

# 3 Register your property to the right where it says "you manage this be? '"Say "

You would need to register first on Foursquare.

What are the benefits first strong hotel, restaurant, bar owner?

# 4 follow the steps to register your owner property and verify that you are using a professional account and not your personal steadfastly account. all of your colleagues or your customers would otherwise know what to do on weekends, and so on.

So for more than 15 minutes, I think you can create your account, register your property and are ready to create offers and all this for free.

Feel free to share your experience with Foursquare; I look forward to hearing your feedback, and please be patient as this company is still young and hearing is relatively small for now.

If your hotel in places where Foursquare uses quite extensively as London, New York, San Francisco ...Try now, Don ' t wait until your competitor does.

Disclaimer: I don ' t work for Foursquare has also shares in the company despite the fact that I am pleased to be a part (Dennis, are you listening?)
